Replacing shifters on a Shimano Mega 7

Hi,
I'm about to replace the useless gripshift shifters on my wife's bike
that has a shimano Mega 7 rear block. That means the final sprocket is
something like 38T and the deraillieur has a larger cog at the top.

Is there any reason why an ordinary pair of STX Rapidfire 7 speed
shifters wouldn't work.
