The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is expected to give its reaction
later to criticisms made at an inquest into the deaths of four cyclists.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is expected to give its reaction
later to criticisms made at an inquest into the deaths of four cyclists.

In a statement, it said it had explained its decision not to prosecute
Mr Harris in "detailed letters to the families of those who died in this
tragic accident".

The chief crown prosecutor has also met family members to explain the
decision face-to-face and answer any questions.

The CPS said "after the most detailed and careful consideration..the
evidence showed that there was no realistic prospect of Mr Harris being
found guilty of any driving offences".

The decision not to prosecute was taken personally by Ed Beltrami, the
chief crown prosecutor for North Wales.

Well, if they'd stuck to nice safe off road cycle paths then they'd be
alive today

Since the car left the road, crossed the verge, hit the wall, bounced
back across the verge and back across the road it would seem irrelevant
whether they were riding on the road or on an imaginary cycle path on
the verge. Although admittedly if there had been a cycle path, by the
time they had picked their way through all its inadequacies they would
probably be alive having arrived at the accident site half an hour after
it happened.
