So I'm doing my first Half Century ride in 16 years. It's been a while since I've been biking this much. I've gained 50lbs since then. I've been riding for the past six weeks and below are the results of my last ride. http://sportypal.com/Workouts/Details/2457269 The ride I am trainig for is the KelleyBrush ride in Middlebury, VT on September 8th. It's a charity ride for people who are parapalegics and quadrapalegics. My wifes family asked me to join their team. One of her uncles is the parapalegic and he is doing the Half Century ride as well. He's an inspiration to everyone he meets! I'm very excited to do this since it's beem forever since I've ridden this much. What I am now remembering is much of this is sport is mental as well as physical. Even though I'm older and a bit heavier, experience has taught me that I am capable of much more then I allowed myself way back then. I'm tackling hills I never managed when I was younger. I'm still a bit slow right now with my average speeds but with reduced weight, better fittness and my minds willingness to push my body through to my second wind, I can improve those times. I'm feeling great!

My latest ride done this morning. http://sportypal.com/Workouts/Details/2470767 Notably there are some brutually steep hills in this rout. Off the saddle I can barely maintain 3mph up these hills. The firs leg holds a 1 mile incline that I can maintain roughly 6 to 8 mph. But it's the two steep climbs, the first one coming up to Monkton Ridge and the second being on silver St in Hinesburg. Its a great ride! Notably: two of the toughest climbs in Vermont are near by. The Appalachian Gap on rout 17 And the Lincoln Gap in Bristol. Someday, I will tackle those but not until I am in top physical shape. My hats off to those who climb it. Here's a vdeo of those and a few other gaps in Vermont. http://vimeo.com/m/5952650
