Riding from Bundaberg to Childers (and back)

Hi,

I'll be up in and around Bundy next week. I have a mum and dad in Bargara (just east of Bundy) and an uncle in Childers - and my bike is jealous of the car getting all the fun.

My question is...

Can anyone suggest which is a better (be it based on safety, stress, travel time etc) route - the Isis Hwy or the Goodwood Rd? Whilst my many (car) trips make me suspect that the Goodwood Road is a little less hilly and less trafficed, it is also a narrower road.

Has anyone ridden one (or both) and would like to comment?

Scotty I used to visit the area for work and took my bike there
sometimes. I don't think I rode either road. Both are pretty busy with
high-speed traffic. There is a local bike club and active vets in
Maryborough, so you might be able to contact them (check the Cycling
Qld website) and get the skinny.

I grew up in Bundaberg and have driven both roads many times (before I
got into cycling) I would choose the Goodwood Rd since there is less
traffic. I also cycled it in 2004 as part of Cycle Queensland. There
wasn't much traffic then so even though the road was narrow in places
it didn't matter to me.

Ah....The memories.

Went that way a few years back - first time in nearly 30 years and
detoured to have a look at Woodgate and Burrum Heads.

Quite sad at how much it had changed and how much it was spoiled.

My parents moved into Bargara 12 years and 2 days ago, that was the first time I ever saw Bargara. Sensational beaches, rocky outcrops etc.

Even in that short space of time, it is amazing the level of development going on in Bargara (and to a lessor extent, Childers).

That song, 'Big Yellow Taxi' springs to mind

Scotty

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.

Woodgate was pretty special a few years ago - for a family holiday. It
would be worth trundling out there for a coffee, and also to Burrum
Heads and the national park - but you can't ride too slow or the
sandflies will get you.

You just brought back a horrible memory

I remember, not long after they moved into Bargara, we went to a beach around there. Oh! The sand-flies nearly carried us all away to their leader.

I also remembered why I never went back.

ohhhh
