Most pro mountain bikers have been running 1x drivetrains for the last few years.

SRAM has posted an eulogy to the MTB FD!

If SRAM made a light 12 speed cassette in 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 19, 22, 25, 28, 32 I would consider converting my road bike to 1X but their 10-50 cassette weighs a ton and has too many gaps. I don't see any reduction in weight converting now (12 speed cassette and larger RD add significant weight compared to S22 Red RD and X1190 cassette....more than the loss of a FD and front Brifter)

I can almost hear SRAM's whistle in the wind.

This is not for road application though, not decent mountain biker in the last few years would be cause dead with a front der. It's not just wait, the damn things take a nasty beating and cause all sorts of issues.
