  1. I am switching from shimano to sram recently, basically for that superficial weight reduction(~200grams saving on the shifters) and internal cable. Everything's ready (already installed force front derailleur and force left lever)but not the rear derailleur. Yet I really don't want to spend too much money on the rear derailleur,, since I know rival and force both will perform well enough for my purpose. So plan A is to get a used rival then spend the rest of my money on enduro ceramic pulleys, and Plan B is to just get a force without any ceramic upgrade. I've heard that sram blackbox ceramic sucks, that's why I avoid red.. or perhaps a used red of earlier model then upgrade to enduro? Any opinion, suggestions? Discussion of shiftting performance difference between rival and force rear der. is also welcomed here.

  2. Just get the Force derailleur. There is no real benefit from ceramic bearings, other than decreasing the available cash that burdens you.

Why would there be ANY DIFFERENCE in the shifting performance between the two derailleurs?!?

Is there a difference in the weight and/or finish between the Rival & Force rear derailleurs?

What is the difference in the price between the Rival & Force rear derailleurs?

Presuming that there isn't a difference in the "performance" AND if there isn't an appreciable difference in the finish, then I recommend that you simply let your budget and/or aesthetic sensibilities be your guide.

Thanks for the reply, I really like "simply let your budget and/or aesthetic sensibilities be your guide".

So to sum it up, 1. 14grams of difference won't make me faster,
    2. There is no way that their whatever differences will affect my power output.
    3. As for the enduro stuff, my decision will then depends on sram pulley's design and quality(that I will inspect closely after I receive it).

Sigh, It seems that it's totally not necessary to post this question after I realized "why would I ask if I already know my goal and my own version of definition for 'performance'. "

  5. I'm very bike shallow--sometimes I'll replace components just because I like the looks of one thing over another. I still think you're wise to ask opinions of others, but also keep in mind that sometimes perceived performance results in real performance increases, especially if it motivates to go out and train or whatever.

If you have the money and it doesn't force your family to cancel holiday plans, why not do whatever you want?
