road bike vs mountain bike seatpost

    Assuming a similar diameter (31.6 mm) is there any difference? or is it just a marketing ploy?

    I think a mountain bike seat post is typically longer.

    Otherwise, as far as I know a seat post is a seat post.

    A lot of MTB seatposts have no offset, while most road seatposts have some offset. This is due to typical differences in the geometry of the frames.
