road stem on mtb?

They are not the same. Road stems are 26mm diameter, mtb is 25.4mm. Doesn't sound like much but you will likely damage the bars and hurt yourself in the process if you mix them. Road stems are usually more fragile as well. If you notice most tend to have less and smaller bolts at the bar clamp.

yeah the clamp size is different and that would make things very difficult

anyway a decent MTB stem is not that expensive, you can get cheap parts on ebay for next to nothing

Road stems will not work. They are 26.0 and MTB are 25.4 Do not reccomend using as you are on your own.

They are both the same either way.
