Would it be safe to have tires smaller than these rims?

For example, 1.25 road slicks on these rims?

I'm a big rider, 6 3 230, and don't want to be fixing flats every ride, either!

Thanks!

Hey

I used to run 1.5" on rims a wide as yours, they were fine never had any problems, the tyre was about the same width as rim. I don't know about 1.25"??? sorry, i'm sure someone on here will no :)

I ride a pair of IRC Avantage 26x1.5s on my commuter mtb & really like them...I looked at thinner slicks but Marjorie at my LBS thought that we'd start getting into having to replace the wheelset if we went thin enough to make a difference. Your milage (and LBS) may vary, of course. But I've been really happy with these tires.

As long as the tyre is at least as wide as the rim you shouldn't have any problems...

Conti Avenue 1.5's have worked very well for me, and Ritchey Tom Slicks have received some good reviews in this forum.
