I hope all who ran enjoyed the day and enjoyed the race. I was
very pleased with the course and overall administration of the race.
The course was the second-flattest course I've run (the Arturo Barrios
5k in San Diego is THE flattest/fastest) and the weather was perfect
this year. About 70 degrees, although very humid, at the race's
start.
Start went very well, great pre-race support. Lots of
port-o-potties and drinks/food prior to the race start. Easy parking
for out of towners at the Va Beach Ampitheater with good shuttle
service to the start. Throughout the course there was GREAT
entertainment and very solid support from the race crew. I ran 1:32
and throughout the race there was plenty of water, Powerade and gels.
The bands and high school cheerleaders kept the course rockin' the
entire way. There was never a time when there wasn't some
entertainment on the course. I think the volunteers did a great job.
The only problems I encountered were when the race was over. I
couldn't get back to the Ampitheater (parking). I finished at 8:32 am,
but the busses didn't start running until after 10! It wasn't all that
bad, because the entertainment and environment on the beach was so good
that it wasn't hard to kill an hour or so, but the transportation plan
should probably be re-examined.
At any rate, it was a lot of fun and I would like to hear from
others who ran the race. This is a must run for all you in the area!
