I just purchased a 2006 Rockhopper with Rockshox J3 shocks. I didn't bother asking the LBS how to lockout the shocks or adjust them to specific riding conditions. Can anyone shed some light for me? How do I lockout the doggone shocks?

Should be a Blue knob on one of the legs with a little padlock symbol. YOu just rotate it untill it stops. The fork should become, well, rigid. Be careful not to subject them to any impacts when they are locked out. The function does not have a 'blow off valve' like its Motion Controled Counterparts and the components will break.
If you Google "Rock Shox", you will be able to locate the service manual for setting up the fork. It will usually have a "Preload" Knob on one of the legs. This controls the amount of force taken to initially move the fork. You crank this knob to locate the desired sag. (for XC/Trail riding, work out 15% of the total travel) Hope thats a good start for ya mate!
