As far as I know, they've always been aluminum alloy. 1st generation: un-anodized aluminum with
nylock device 2nd: made a bit longer, added pilot to threaded bore 3rd: anodized to prevent
corrosion.

Thanks. I guess it would be my second generation nipples that are corroded and starting to fall
apart! Time for some nice brass nipples.

That'll save you some money. I heard they cost in the vicinity of $10, around here anyway. Luckily
there aren't all that many 😉

I guess you could use some standard brass nipples (installed in the rim upside down), but the
current anodized nipples are splendid.

I especially like that the larger hex lets me raise tension so easily.

And the nylock feature works perfectly: consistent increment of retaining torque, yet multiple
readjustments are easy.

Plus you get to use the same wrench you already own.
