  1. Hi everyone,

This is my first post, although I have been reading for quite awhile. I am suffering from a 30% compression fracture of my l1 vertebrae. My doctor has said I'm okay to ride a trainer, but not outside due to bumps and risk of falling. Prior to my accident, I had decided to purchase rollers this year for the winter so I can train indoors, but I am concerned that with this injury I run the risk of falling and hurting myself badly and potentially causing nerve damage (due to the fracture). I was thinking about buying a Kreitler set of rollers with a fork stand. Does this seem like a reasonable way to get in to rollers safely with this injury? Am I better off just getting a Kurt Kinetic fluid trainer?

I know this forum gets flooded with threads about trainers, but I'm looking for specific feedback regarding the learning curve of rollers, the real risk of a hard fall, and the efficacy of fork stands (potential downsides too) or whether a fluid trainer is a better option as a stable platform even factoring in the fork stand.

    Thanks,
    -E
