Expensive? I paid about 35 Euro for my Thule bike rack. Ie for one bike. I already have the basic
rack with a Thule box mounted on it. This gave me just enough space to put one bike beside it.

I'm looking for the same thing, and I agree, they are so damn expensive!! I found a couple places
that seems to be somewhat cheaper, one was this guy:

http://www.class-cycles.com

Still about $400 for a 2 bike setup. Another was this guy:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2426593428

He came in about $30 cheaper than the first. I still haven't purchased from either, I've been trying
to find some used stuff without much luck.

Let me know if you find a cheaper source.

I had one for awhile. Got rid of it once I realized that it was only a matter of time until I drove
under something too low.

Because these racks are exposed to the elements and they have to withstand the effects of wind as we
drive 60-75mph. Bad welds could yield and nice accident for both your bike and auto, not to forget
the damage your bikes might do if projected into another vehicle.

I've used Yakima & Thule and both are great. I have a great Yakima hitch mount that's worth every
penny of it's $500+.

What's bothersome for me is that my hitch mounts worked fine for any vehicle with that can take a
hitch and was great for my SUV. However, I just sold that recently and bought a porsche. Now I have
to buy porsches roof rack system... Yikes:)

I've had excellent luck with the Yakima roof mount on my Honda. I don't have a garage, so I don't
need to worry about the bikes crashing into the garage.

I also have the bike mount where you don't need to remove the front tire. It takes all of about 45
seconds to load the bike.

They're expensive because there isn't much competition. Yak and Thule seem to hold most of
the market.

Good luck.

Just gotta be careful, Pete. I've used them for more than 30 years and I've never run into anything
more solid than a shrub branch. Phil Brown

And were supposed to feel bad for you after you just bought a Porsche. : )

The Yakima and Thule fit kits are sometimes quite different. Look at a car the same as yours with
each system before buying. On an Acura Integra that my gf had, the Yakima mount was terrible (went
over the weatherproofing, crushing and deforming it, while the Thule mount went under the
weatherproofing, and there were even indicators under there for Thule mount locations, stamped into
the sheet metal.

After that I became partial to Thule, and the TUV approval provides some assurance that the product
has at least been tested under extreme conditions.
