I'd pretty much given up on this season; we'd had a good bit of rain. But the last week's been dry
so we decided to give it a shot. Highlights:
- Forgot the camera. Damn!
- Paid penance to the gravity gods up front - an hour of spinning up (sometimes very steep)
fireroads.
- First mile of downhill was blazing, 25+ mph on tight singletrack. No gears necessary. Made a nasty
switchback that none of us have attempted.
- Flowing singletrack alongside a creek, very moist & leaf-covered rocks made it exciting. Lack of
brakes after water crossings made it even more exciting.
- Had to stop for a fallen tree across the trail, about 3ft off the ground. We made it into an
obstacle. My bud tried it first, and biffed real hard! Good obstacle! It'll no doubt be gone by
the next ride.
- Horses had done some nasty damage to the trail, digging holes and tearing up the edges. But no one
crashed on that, so it was all good.
About an hour of climbing and an hour of descending - a fabulous ratio.
