Ha ha! I might have to get my wife some just to see the expression on
her face (as I run away).

Three weeks ago Tuesday I hit a 50 yard long grease slick on Chambers
Street between Bway and Church. Fortunately, my many years of
experience riding mtbs, bmxers, road and track bikes in icy and muddy
conditions helped me stay upright.

For thirty yards.

Then the bike went sideways and I got unceremoniously dumped on my hip
pointer. The colors are finally fading, but I have nice big lump filled
with blood nestled into the side of my left ass cheek to remind me.
'Hematoma' has become my GF's favorite word.

It was that hot at AMB-ID Swedish Invasion this year...but probably about
what, 20% humidity. I sure don't miss that east coast humidity. :p

You have the best wrecks.

If I may hazard a guess, I would bet that you were headed West, then?

'Fraid so, Home. Something like that. That's an early train from LI,
not to mention the ride up to 110th Street. I think there's a #3 stop
close to the start line.

East. So the tarmac was nice and hot, and the air full of a day's
congestion.

I cheat and jump on at Prospect Park at around 8-830. (It's still a
full century once I ride home.)

Get up = Arise from bed.

In order for Jim and I to arrive on time, we would have to wake up at 4am to
catch a train for the century that starts at 6am. That's too friggin early
for me to wake up...

I was trying to figure out how you found enough space in traffic in
which to wreck headed west...

Sigh. I know. I was implying that in the "old days" you (and I) would have
just STAYED UP for an event like that!

(I just got one of those "you know you're old" e-mails that had stuff like
that. In fact, one of the entries WAS "6:00 AM is when you get up instead
of when you come in.")

The only formal century I've done was in Palm Springs -- also started at 6
or 6:30 IIRC. Anyway, three of us piled in my heap at 2:00 AM (!!!) and got
out there around 5:45 or so. Registered, rode the thing, drove home. Long
day!

We went to a concert last week and didn't get home until 3am. It took us a
week to recover from that...

We usually do 1 or 2 a year, but they usually start at 7am.

Same here.

Rocked out to Beethoven's 5th and Berlioz' "Symphonie funèbre et
triomphale" at the Hollywood Bowl last night, we were all hooting for
more, and I just woke up now and even though it wasn't that late of a
night. For Berlioz they had a marching band, choir, and even a Jingling
Johnnie:

On a more primal level this crazy dude is coming through town later this
month:

Not to be missed.

And on a more spacey level these nuts from the 70s are playing our
Knitting Factory:

I hope I recover from all that in time for our trip to China.

You don't recall that 2.5' strip between moving traffic and parked cars
(with the doors that can swing open at the most inconvenient times?)
That's actually not where I kissed asphalt. Where I fell was actually
in the center of the driving lane. I don't know how I didn't end up
with a car parked on my chest. Luck?
