Had an interesting morning ride with a club member and his friend. We met at Anapas and headed out into Lebanon State Forest. The trail is in great condition (have not ridden it since the winter). It was nice and fast and not too sandy. Since it was cool in the morning, the bugs were at a minimum. There are a couple of newly downed trees and a new log over that needs work but someone has been doing trail maintenance here. We were moving fairly well, and were ready to do the 21 mile ride when we get to the fork for the park office after the fire tower. One of the worst mechanicals I have seen yet! Jeff's friend snapped the drive train dropout right off his brand new Bianchi (10 days old). We're not talking bent derraileur hanger, this was a clean break at the frame. I would assume this was a defect. I tried to turn it into a single speed, but alas I did not have the necessary skills to pull it off. Luckily, we were close enough to Route 72 that we had him wait there while we roadied back to the car. It was a short but interesting ride.
I had a wooly for more riding all day, so after dinner I roadied up to Lenape HS to see if there was a group road ride. There was just one other person there so we did a 30+ miler through Lumberton and Mt. Holly. I had no idea there was another Nike missle base around here. I have been depressed ever since they took away the Marlton one. I'll have to explore this site (the buildings and radar towers are still there) one weekend.

Sheesh. Which model? Out of curiosity, was it seatstay weld, chainstay weld, or both? A buddy of mine broke his Specialized at the same dropout. I don't think popping a weld there is uncommon -- it carries a lot of loads vertically and torsionally, with an abundance of welding in a small surface area. /s

It was at the back of the chainstay where the derailleur hanger attaches to the frame and it wasn't even at a weld or the screw hole. It snapped like a dry twig. It was a KingBee, which is not a light frame. Their website even says (big hit). The log over wasn't even half way up to the BB, it was more like a branch over!
