I'm planning to purchase an old shifter... actually it has never been used and now is on sale at our Loc. Bike Shop, and i dont know how long it was sitting on the shelf. I know Shimano doesn't make it anymore that is why I'm asking if its any good, even if its on sale. Is it better than the Sora? Tiagra? Thanks.

I'm planning to pair it with Shimano 105's (brakes, derailuers,...).

I do about 100-200kms a week, and i don't race, would this(RSX) do?

RSX is the elder equivalent to the modern Sora I think.

Nothing wrong with the RSX. In fact, for smaller hands it's a better fit than some higher end Shimanos.

My wife's Lemond is RSX 7 speed, my riding partner's is RSX 8 speed. Both work fine. Neither look as good as Ultegra or Dura Ace, but my Camry doesn't look as fine as a Celica either.

When you start talking about mileage > 10,000, you might see a difference in wear characteristics. And if weight is a big thing, you could do better.

But as a reasonable working alternative, I'd have no hesitation buying RSX gear.

Thanks to all.

I have bought the shifters and it will soon be fitted on my bike. Yes, its a bit heavier than the 105's I had. But it will do.

Thanks again.
