Just looking through ebay, as you do!, and noticed the bidding on

ha!! I reckon I was the last person using screw-on clusters a few years ago, and I bought the last few 7 speed gold Maillards I could find in Melbourne because they index with 7 and 8 speed Shimano STIs. The most I paid was $120 AUS, which is 49.5 pounds, or $91 USD.......too much!! I can't really tell if that's the good (goldish) one or the cheaper one.

The 7 speed screw-ons were bad enough for breaking axles, but 8-speed were even worse -- in fact, almost useless unless the rider is very light. I used to bust heaps of axles with 7 speed screw-ons

Rare is the thing. Good quality new in the box freewheels are hard to come by in 6 and 7s (I am not counting Shimano's cheapie freewheels), and 8s were only briefly made by Sachs during the early cassette days.
