up to his old tricks. doing well when the race leaders have no real
reason to chase him. he never is able to stay with anybody when he is
involved in the real race. no reason to expect anything different in a
months time.

Depends on how good Basso and Ullrich (and their teams) are in July, I
suppose. Basso's team worked really hard for him in the Giro, and they
might all be pooped - not just Basso himself. Ullrich is in a good way,
but the unity in the team doesn't seem to have improved much even with
Godefroot replaced by the seemingly vastly superior Olaf Ludewig.

Mayo may well benefit simply because he didn't ride the Giro.

yep..at least mayo will be back to supply some entertaining fireworks,
if not substance!

Mayo won the Dauphiné Libéré of 2004 (Hamilton second, Armstrong third) and
in the Tour of 2004 he finished 6th at 7'06" from Armstrong (without the TTT
he would have finished at 3'34"). Not bad for someone without substance ...

If memory serves he was DNF in 2004, he got off the bike, back on, you
must be thinking of the TDF2003, now that was a good one, my TOP3 of
the past 15 years with 96 and 97.

Mayo's shape bodes well for the TDF2006 not to mention Ullrich looking
lean and mean today at the beginning of the TFSuisse !

You're quite right of course.

I agree completely.

I'm afraid Mayo will lose much time in the TT's (fortunately no TTT this
time), but if Ullrich isn't in top form, the Basque might be dangerous all
the same.

He's been partially invisible for much of 2004 and 2005,
but in the Dauphine, he crashed on stage 5 and recovered
to take second on the stage; then he won stage 6 for his
first notable result in quite some time. This surely must be
the strongest evidence yet for the RBR Adrenaline Theory.

Mayo had 8 wins in 2004, including the Dauphiné GC (where LANCE had
beaten him a year earlier). His 6th placement at the Tour was in 2003.
He's been 5th at the Vuelta too.

Doesn't "LANCE" get a "!" at the end? Or is it reserved for when he goes into
politics; "LANCE!"
