Hi, I am planning a ride to Santa Barbara via Foxen Canyon Rd through either HWY 154, or up over Refugio Rd to the 101 on my road bike. I've already did the HWY 1 route which was great, just want to try a new route. How concerned should I be with how narrow HWY 154 becomes? When does it narrow? How tricky is the decent into Santa Barbara? Regarding the Refugio route through Solvang, I understand the last ~4 miles to the summit is a dirt road. Can a road bike do this portion? Will I need to dismount? How well marked is the Refugio road? Google maps shows it going all over the place. I plan to do the ride during the week....less traffic!
