Anyone know of good resources for satellite imaes and aerial photos of the UK?

There seems to be either a mass of panetary stuff from NASA and such, a few commercial resources,
    but nothing in between?

Have a look at www.landmap.ac.uk To get the best quality downloads you will need to have an
athens.ac.uk password. You'll probably only get one of those if you are at university and they
    subscribe to the surface.

You can download 1/4 resolution Landsat 7 images in JPG format for free though at
http://landmap.ac.uk/download/choose_selection_mthd.htm (Link at bottom of page)

    Cheers

Not sure what sort of scale you are after, but you could try the University of Maryland Global Land
Coverage Facility http://glcfapp.umiacs.umd.edu:8080/esdi/index.jsp there are alot of landsat 4
images, and a limited number of landsat 7's
