"One of the reasons that I am part of this team is to teach our young
riders how to use their talent to win races. I think this weekend I
found my future calling. Let me say that Mike Jones was the first
rider that Health Net/Maxxis looked at for this year. He was a member
of the dysfunctional and oxymoronic West Virginia Pro Cycling Team
last year. Over the winter, it had become obvious to me that the
managers at West Virginia had taught Mike nothing about racing a bike,
which probably means they know absolutely nothing about racing a bike.
Since they no longer exist, and since they owe Mike money, I know I am
right on this point. So Gord and I have spent the winter trying to
educate Jones on the finer points of racing. This weekend it paid
