I am looking to buy a Schwinn Super Sport, pre-1987, pink, 55--58 cm. It's for an elderly friend who just wrecked the love-of-his-=life bicycle. I and some of his other friends want to buy a similar bicycle and fix it up for him. It doesn't have to be in great shape. We can fix it up. It's highly unlikely that a bike of this value would be listed on eBay, but stranger things have happened. It's also more unlikely that its value would not justify shipping it.
Buying old and vintage stuff is a game of chance. If you simply wait for the ideal bike to fall into your lap, it probably won't. If you actively and creatively search for it, then you raise your chances a little bit. If you keep an open mind and are willing to accept a reasonable substitute, you raise your chances a lot more.
But a 26-year low-level Schwinn that is pink and 22-23 inches, and presumably not totally trashed is a mighty narrow search.
