You get what you pay for. 599.90 Euro is a lot more than $490 US.

I wouldn't even know where to begin comparing the two. The Schwinn is a basic single-chainring 7-speed urban utility bike, built on a frame reminiscent of what Schwinn made in Chicago during the 1950s and '60s, but with aluminum components such as handlebar, stem, hubs, rims, brake levers and calipers, and crankset, and a rudimentary steel-sprung plastic and vinyl saddle. It's accessorized with aluminum fenders and what looks like a steel rack. The T-50 has a triple crankset, what appears to be a significantly more comfortable frame, and it's tricked out with just about every urban utility bike accessory imaginable.

You're the one who's going to ride it. Tell me which one you'd rather ride.

Here's a suggestion. Go to a local Trek dealer, get a 7.1 FX for about $420-440 US, and have them install a Bontrager Backrack ($50), a pair of full-coverage Bontrager fenders (also $50), and a Greenfield aluminum kickstand ($10). You'll have the functionality of the Schwinn, plus triple chainrings, built to a level of quality that is as good as or better than the T-50.

The German VSF Fahrrad is a quality product. The Germans...they make good stuff.

The fake Schwinn Traveler...not so much.
