My present seat tube angle is 73 degrees. For comfort reasons I have backed my seat pass the stop mark on the rails. I'm a little worried that I have now put too much pressure on the rails in the back mounting of my seat and may cause some damage.
I was thinking that the solution would be to get another seat post where the rail mounts sit a little further back from the post which would allow me to return the seat back to the "stop point" on the seat rails but maintain the distance from the front that I am looking for.
What has me confused about this is the listing of a possible seat post that I want says that this seat post moves the seat forward instead of back. (From a 73 degrees to 78 degrees) Is this correct? I thought that going from a 73 degree to a 78 degree post seat mount would sit the seat futher back not forward. The picture of this seat post even looks like it would move the seat further aft rather than forward. What am I missing here?
Nope, that seatpost moves the seat forward for time trial and triathalon positioning. They've just got it spun around in the photo but the Profile label is at the rear of the seatpost. Folks do make setback seatposts like you describe, but that isn't one of them. Take a look at the angle along the top, if you just spun this around and tried to use it as a setback post you'd likely have trouble getting your saddle angled appropriately.
