Dear European friends,

As you may have gathered by some bitter discussion about OLN (the only U.S. television station that shows cycling, also known as the "Only Lance Network"), cycling coverage in the U.S. looks like it will be extremely limited this year. Last year, OLN covered some of Paris-Nice and had mediocre coverage of the Spring classics (constant advertising and Lance promos, ugh!).

So I have a proposition: would anyone with good coverage of cycling be willing to videotape and mail television coverage of races to me? Of course, I would cover the cost of mailing, videotape, and a gratuity for your time. I'm not overly concerned about what channel it comes from, but I would prefer English commentary. I am most interested in tapes of Paris-Roubaix, Flanders, LBL, Fleche Wallone, Amstel Gold, MSR, and the Giro; the more, the better.

Of course, I will share these tapes liberally with cycling fans throughout the U.S. If American TV won't cover our sport, I'd still like our fans to see it.

Please send me a private message if you might be interested.

I have some other European videos you might want as well.... there made in Holland by a small company working out of Amsterdam... all the actors and horses are over 18.....

Amstel Gold 2006 will be on www.cycling.tv . I have lots of videos but they are all in German, Dutch and Italian...

If you go to http://www.tdl.com.my/ you can find videos (streaming) of the 2006 Tour de Langkawi, it's on the right side of the page.

Film about Lance Armstrong (Dutch but the interviews are in English with Dutch subtitles):
http://www.nos.nl/nosstudiosport/artikelen/2005/6/27/lancearmstrondocu.html

Documentary about the wintertraining of T-Mobile, CSC and Gerolsteiner (German with some English during the CSC part of the film)) you have to download both files and unpack them, otherwise they won't run on your computer:
http://rapidshare.de/files/12087196/SW_Sportschau__Wintertraining_der_Radprofis.part1.rar.html http://rapidshare.de/files/12091872/SW_Sportschau__Wintertraining_der_Radprofis.part2.rar.html

Here you can download a documentary (in German) about Gerolsteiner during Tour of Qatar 2006 http://rapidshare.de/files/12647067/swr.avi.html and here a video about Jan Ullrich traing 2006 (German):
http://rapidshare.de/files/11491467/Spor...llrich.avi.html

Have fun!

thanks a lot for this. watching Lankawai right now. I am jealous of you Euros who live in a place that values cycling and broadcasts it. Really jealous.

Then again, you do get stuck watching a lot of soccer I am sure so that pretty much balances things out.

You depraved Euros favor horses, I know. But here in the U.S. we do it like righteous christians. With sheep.

Haha I always laugh at those smeets-armstrong interviews; they have a good chemistry:D I liked the part were armstrong was joking and saying that all journalists are liars, which smeets quickly replied with: what are all cyclists?? Classic!

By the way, it's no problem to put files to Rapidshare and than publish the link at this forum so you can all download the files. The only problem for me is that i will be at a lot of races and can't do it myself....

What's bittorrent?
Bittorrent is a file-sharing protocol best suited to sharing large files. Like, for instance, a five-hour race recording. The homepage is www.bittorrent.com. Many programs use this protocol, so the one located at bittorrent.com is far from the only one. I use Azureus because I have gotten used to it, but I'm sure many other clients are just as good.

How to share and download using bittorrent is explained on the homepage and many other places on the net. Some of the concepts are somewhat difficult to grasp, but in reality it's quite easy to use.

bittorrent is pretty nice, i found pretty much all of the 2005 tour on there (OLN's coverage). and some of 2003 (the WCP DVD set). Disc four has been stuck at 99.30% for about 3 weeks now, which is really getting to me. Back in september i even managed to get the opening time trial of the vuelta, but the commentary was in spanish and my spanish is not quite good enough to follow. So i pretty much gave up. I'm not sure how useful torrents will be for any of the smaller races, i haven't found anything yet.

Try newsgroups........AND with newsgroups you can download with youre full capacity........

I actually invented the term Only Lance Network in 2002 and actually said it to the CEO of OLN whom I met at a charity ride for an OLN employee who had experienced a heart transplant-a former racer and rider. The CEO enjoyed the joke as did Bob Roll Phill Liggett and Paul Sherwen when we went out drinkin afterwards.

Just thought you should know.
