Sending luggage from Cambridge to Edinburgh

I've just been asked the best way to send 3 bags, total weight about 100lb
from Cambridge to Edinburgh - they're riding up and want the other stuff
sending ahead.

Any ideas?

cheers,

I suppose it depends how time critical it is. My mum lives in East
Anglia and we live in Edinburgh. In the past we have used a part load
distribution service. You might be able to find someone local who does
the run up and back on a regular basis.

Virgin Trains work with a company called

http://www.carrymyluggage.com/

I've no link with it, but it may do what you say. Services such as
Parcelforce would give a decent rate for doing that to one of their
contract customers, but for retail customers, it's probably too pricey.
They do have aggregators which keep their prices nearer to that charged
to businesses.

Yes - I found some on ebay, and had some recommended elsewhere. Really quite
a lot cheaper than the retail rate!

Might be a bit too far, but we were discussing moving out in a few months
and how many car trips it would take and a random guy from London next to us
on the train suggested going to a charity shop who sell bulky items (e.g.
furniture) and will deliver it and giving them a generous donation for their
man and van!

If you know anyone who drives a lorry long distance, they might be able to
take it if they're going that way. It might fit in the back of the cab if
it can't go in the trailer.
