I seem to have a bit of a problem with my 7 speed Nexus hub gear (no roller or coaster), in that it
suddenly started taking a lot more pressure to freewheel (i.e. I stopped pedalling and had to push
quite hard on the pedals to stop them moving, causing the chain to jump) when riding over some
cobbles. Since then (a few days ago), it seems to have varied a fair bit in stiffness (as measured
by how hard it is to get the pedal in the right place when starting), but has not moved smoothly
since, although pedalling is unaffected.
The actual rotation speed of the pedals changes when I change gear, so it's not catching on the
outside of the hub.
Is there anyone who has any idea what might be happening and how to fix it? Does anyone know of any
LBSs who might have the expertise? I assume most of them don't see many hub gears. (It was supplied
by the insurance company, so I can't easily go back to them)
Suggestions gratefully received.
