Shift Lever Reversal

I suspect that your Trek probably has a RAPID RISE (reverse pull) rear derailleur ... that's considered to be 'a good thing' because the reverse pull expedites downshifting to lower gears ...

If the change in the derailleur's direction from what you are familiar with when you are shifting bothers you, then you'll need to change the rear derailleur to a "normal" pull rear derailleur.

If your derailleur is a normal pull rear derailleur, then you'll have to buy an older shifter.
