Every reference I have ever seen quotes the thickness of Shimano
cassette sprockets and spacers in metric measurements. eg 2.65mm. As
any micrometer will confirm, all references should be in decimal
inches.

For example:

HG 7-speed - Sprockets 0.070" thick. Spacers 0.125" thick. Total width
1.240". Center to centre 0.195".

IG 7-speed - Sprockets 0.100" thick. Spacers 0.105" thick. Total width
1.330" Center to centre 0.205".

8-speed - Sprockets 0.075" thick. Spacers 0.120" thick. Total width
1.450" Center to centre 0.195".

9-speed - Sprockets 0.070" thick. Spacers 0.100" thick. Total width
1.430" Center to centre 0.170".

This situation probably also applies to other brands of cassettes.

There are no inches on my micrometer. It measures in
millimetres.

Occasionally I see a reference to something being measured as
"25.4 mm" or "2.54 cm". This always makes me wonder why the
measurer is afraid to say "1 inch".
