Shimano cleat compatibility with M858 pedals

Does anyone recall why Shimano advised against use of
the SH50, 51, 55 cleats with M858 pedals, indicating that only the
SH52 cleat was to be used with the pedal.

For the past few weeks I have been using SH55 cleats with M858 pedals.
I was half expecting to have to open my shoes to get my feet out of
the pedals, only to find the combo works great. The specifics:
nearly new 55 cleats, nearly new M858 pedals, fairly loose tension
setting.

The combo appears to work pretty much like the SH55 cleats with M540
and M959 pedals (the only other pedals I have anymore to compare).
The one difference is that with the M858 pedals the SH55 cleats will
not release with a quick, firm, directly upward pull as they will with
the M540s and 959s (which is more of an advantage than a
disadvantage). I get a normal release both with a kick out as well as
with the combo of a small twist out and quick upward pull that I
prefer.

Is my experience somehow unique or is this another instance of
over-caution by Shimano.
