Chat up your LBS and ask them to save some old mechs from crashed bikes etc.

I replaced all the cross-head adjusters on my bike with stainless
cap-screws (aka allen bolts). I no longer need to carry a screwdriver,
and they don't mundge up. I need to carry allen keys (a fold-up set)
anyway. Stainless doesn't corrode either. On my Shimano they were a
standard metric (coarse i.e. normal) thread. M4 proabably.
