Hi all,

I have a Mark 1 Scalpel and need to replace the front Shimano XT Disc Brake Dual Control (front break).

The existing two units are:

and

My question is, will a new lever be compatable with the old caliper? The Shimano web site states:

"An increase in pad clearance at the calliper has enabled Shimano to use their proven Servo Wave technology in this hydraulic brake lever.". And I'm wondering if I'll need a new caliper also?

The unit I'm considering is (which can only be purchaced as two levers only):

Or I could get (which is sold as 1 lever + caliper):

Thanks for any advice!!

I would go for the one that comes with the caliper. I feel certain they would work together but you would have to buy a special hose to mate them up. The older ones use a "banjo" style connector and the new one uses a compression fitting at the caliper. Considering that, and the fact that the new calipers just work better... I think you would be much happier with the one from chainreaction that is complete.
