Just bought a new pair of Marzocchi ERX pro forks. You can adjust the spring preload, and they come set to the minimum preload by the manufacturer. My question is they say you can adjust these according to your weight, but show no chart to do so. Is there some kind of weight formula for shocks or something? If not whats a good way to set them up for yourself? Thanks for any replies.
HI. there is no true formula, it is really a matter of preference and the conditions you will be riding, if you'll be doing drops or jumping for a day up the preload so you wont bottom out, the more you have the less responsive the fork will be to smaller bumps. I figure you can use to setup initialy is that you want enough preload so that you get around 20-30% of the forks travel in sag. Get a zip tie and put it around the one stanction, the sit on your saddle and then see how much the zip tie moved up the stancion;;;this is your sag. So adjust the preload till the zip tie moves about 20-30mm if your using a 100mm fork. hope this helps... Corey
