Shock! Lance quits pro cycling!

Just in! Lance has announced his retirement from pro cycling with immediate effect! This announcement comes as a shock to his team and managers alike, as they had no prior knowledge of his intentions!
Lance was quoted as saying: "I've had enough! The mountain stages of the tour have taken a lot out of me. Going up some of those Cols I sometimes ask myself: 'What I'm I doing here? I should be hanging around a lake somewhere fly fishing. This is madness, punishing myself like this!'.
His team is yet to release a media statement.

This throws the Tour wide open, and his main rivals will be licking thir lips.

I've just bumped into a this morning's interview with Erik Zabel who comments on Lance's decision!

Quote: ' I was sure that sooner or later he would bend under the pressure from the French media(...) he (the texan cowboy) simply didn't have what it takes to make it five in a row'.

And then he goes on: ' (...) I have seen enough of green in the TdF - this year I am going for the yellow.'

Well, this would explain some of his recent bunch sprint defeats (Perdiguero, Di Luca).

' The transition (to a tour specialist) has cost him some of his earlier qualities (...) I am surre he'll get plenty of support from Jullich, Jan and me of course. ' - Andreas Kloden said of his teammate.
