Where did that info come from? Its complete BS.... Speedplay cleats are compatible just about, if not all road cycling shoes on the market these days.

X Pedal-NOT COMPATIBLE. Although 1F and 1R Snap Shims cleat will mount to the carbon sole, this shoe is too wide to clear crank arm, preventing safe release. Special longer spindles available from Speedplay must be used to ensure compatibility with carbon soled shoes.

However, I have since called Speedplay and they said that Shimano has corrected the issue on all '05 models.
