Sidi Genius 2 adaptor plate?

I have some Sidi Genius 2s that I love to death, but don't want to
replace. My spd adaptor plates are shot, as are my pedals, so it's time
to buy a new pedal system. I'm looking for something that will work
with the bare soles of my 3-hole Sidis.

It's my understanding that Speeplays come with shims to fit my shoes
with no adaptor plates. Is this true? These are a little less
attractive because replacement cleats are so expensive.

Would I be able to get Look cleats or the new Shimano SPD/r Ultegra
cleats on them without the adaptor plates that came with the shoe?
