SIDI Genius & Speedplay?

I've got an older pair of SIDI genius shoes (with the recessed adapter
plate assembly), and have been considering switching to speedplay X
series pedals. Looking at Speedplay's website, I'm not entirely sure
if aftermarket snap shims are indeed required. Could anyone with some
experience offer a bit of advice?

I have three bikes with Speedplay X series pedals and two pair of Sidi
Genius road shoes and love 'em both. When my cleats get worn out I just buy
a replacement set and bolt them on. No problemo! If by " recessed adapter
plate assembly" you might mean Mountain bike shoes, then all bets are off.
I don't know if they'll work on mt bike shoes. My wife wears mountain bike
Sidi's, but she uses Speedplay Frogs. They work great on her shoes. Good

Thanks for the help...I should have been more precise. What I meant by
"recessed adapter plate assembly" is the "feature" found on older
(circi 1999?) SIDI road shoes with the first generation Millenium sole
that allowed the rider to utilize different bolt patterns. Rather than
use surface mounted screwholes on the sole of the shoe (like the new
SIDIs, and most every other shoe currently on the market), the old
shoes required that you purchase an adapter plate specific to your bolt
pattern (currently Look for me). I have no idea why they did this.

For best results, you need a LOOK adapter plate, then the SP mounting
plate onto that.
