SI's Lance special issue

It's worth 30 minutes in the grocery store. Lotsa cute pics of
Little!Lance. A great one of Luke and dad beaming at each other.

Count how many photos have this in the caption: "Lance Armstrong
(yellow jersey)..."

Also cool: you can order any one of the bazillion SI covers as a
poster. (LA is catching up to Princess Di on People.)

Favorite scenario: the laundry guy brings in a load of clean wash.
"These your shorts?"
LA: "Nope, not mine."

"Your socks?"
LA: "Yes."

(holds up yellow shirt) "For sure this is yours."

To bad Lance keeps wearing those FREDY black
Nike socks on so many rides.

Yeah, they really slowed him down in today's TT! (At least Ulrich got a
good look at 'em :-D )

FWIW, the time trial was won by another American, Dave Zabriskie, a
former LA team mate. He beat Lance out by a whopping two seconds. I'm
doubly intrigued to see him up top (however briefly) because he happens to
be from my naked woods.

Here's hoping that the Sports Illustrated jinx doesn't kick in now.

Three factors msot likely. DZ went early, with apparently stronger tail
wind. LA slipped out of his pedal right at start, which definitely cost him
a few seconds. Once he passed Ullrich (sp corrected), LA let up just a tad.

He's in pefect position for now (AFAICT).

Don't discount the fourth: David Z is an outstanding time trialist, having
won a time trial stage in the Giro this spring, being the U.S. National
Champ last year, and winning a stage in last year's Vuelta in a 162 km solo
breakaway.

He also managed to place 5th at World's one week after dropping out of the
Vuelta.

Not bad for a 25-year old.

Note that while Lance may have backed off slightly after catching Ulrich, he
had an advantage over David Z in that he had a fast rabbit to chase.

News of the second day of the TdF is that Zabriskie is still wearing
yellow. This was another stage that favors sprinters. He'll drop back in
time, of course, but it has to feel great to lead EVER in a race like
that. LA, meanwhile, finished 65th in the second stage, wisely staying
behind the crazies out in front who kept crashing into each other. His
time to lead will come.
