Site Slow in SA

I have been experiencing a lowness in this site at times. So I decided to run a trace and see where the traffic is that is holding up my response times. Well it seems that from SA we are router through to London. Now this is where the speed drops. After London we are routed into New York and then to San Fransisco and only then to Autralia.

I suspect we are being routed via London dew to a major line being damaged in New York (confirmed by Internet Solutions).

So the problem seems to lie in London at the moment. As soon as IS get's the line back up and running again I'm sure our access in South Africa will be quicker.

Yeah, it's a bit of a bummer.

This thread should probably be in the 'Feedback' forum.

This might sound silly, but something I've noticed is that each time there is some military activity in Afghanistan, the net slows down. I'm sure these dudes disrupt Internet lines for security reasons.
And as you all know, NY is busy with some major clean-up and fixing operation, so it could stem from this too.

I post on another much larger F1 BB at the same time as I'm here and this one is much. much slower. Perhaps it's the different BB software?

sean, where is this F1 Bb based ? Could just be the routing to it.

YaBB is abit slower than Vbulletin but about the same as UBB.

Can you guys tell me how long the front page takes to load?
The banner is java and tends to slow things up alot :-/ maybe I should give that the flick?

thanks

ATM - the front page is loading in around 14-17 seconds (yes i did clear my cache) I'm only on a 56k modem.

But this helps me hehe

Admin,

I dont think it's the Java applet. Even when I refresh a thread it take a while. If I do a ping to the site it take +/- 3000ms. this says to me it's more to do with the lines than the site itself.

I know that the 45meg line to New York should be up and running within the next week or so. I will judge the speed then and give feedback. But for now I'm sure it's all to do with line speed.

B.T.W. this is the best cycling forumn I've come across. As a matter of fact, the layout even betters most motoring forumns that I'm on. Keep up the good work and thanks for providing us with this service.
