  1. Another newb question...

I got a set of Spinnergy RevX Tubular wheelset for racing (triathlons). I also put an Ultegra cassette (12-23) on the back wheel. Currently I have a Shimano HG-50 (12-23).

When I put the wheel on it skips gears, it doesn't move smoothly from one gear to the next and is a really rough ride.

I put my other wheel on and it works nice and smooth.

Why would it do this and how do I fix the problem?

When switching wheels with different hub brands, you may need to adjust your rear derailleur stops slightly. If everything is lined up correctly with the RevX wheel in place, another possibility is that your chain and cassette on the first wheel are worn and the old chain may be skipping on the new cassette. Try a new chain if this is the case or try the old cassette on the new wheel.

Not to insult anyone's intelligence, but both wheels need to have the same number of cassette cogs.

Rough ride and bad shifting are certainly separate issues. If your wheel rides badly it's probably out of round.

Bad shifting on one wheel with good shifting on another sounds like either a worn out cassette or maybe the dish is a little different so the indexing is off - learn how to tweak your barrel adjusters.
