The maps cover one degree sectors so the names are a bit on the vague
side. Perhaps a map index would be a good idea.

about buying a mapping GPS stage.

Circa 100Mb on my PC.
I have 0.5Gb in my GPS and don't fill it.
However, I only load areas I visit, so vast chunks of the country are
skipped. That said, I'll load all of Scotland, northern England, midlands,
East Anglia, plus northern France (not SMC data), etc.

Contours V2 is ~120MB. That's the smallest memory card Garmin will ship
these days (although the blurb still says 64MB).

Topo GB is about 1.6GB iirc. That's the 'raw' size of the tiles .. not
sure how much it expands when you send it to the handset, but probably
not much. A 2 GB microSD card will cost you £15 or something. I actually
cheaped out and ordered a 1GB card for like £9, and they sent me a 2GB
card anyway ('free upgrade'😉.
