Smelly helmet

Okay, I've been riding for about two years now - my helmet is really beginning to stink from sweat (particularly the straps)- what do I do - throw the whole thing in the washing machine? Any better ideas?

I wash mine with diswashing detergent in the kitchen sink. Just try not to let any water get between the outer hard shell and the inner styrofoam.

can´t happen with modern helmets as the shell is cast as one with the cover on any helmet worth using .
or shower gel of the bactiricide type ( less rinsing )

oh and try washing your hair more often and not using gel / brylcream etc
