Smugness

Had a smugness-inducing experience of my own yesterday.

Got to a point a couple of miles from home where the road was completely
blocked by a bus going one way and cars going the other way trying to
squeeze through lines of parked cars on either side of the road. I
casually cruised past the traffic jam as far as the bus, but then there
was no room to get any further. Eventually got through the jam then
drafted behind the bus for another half a mile or so until it reached a
stop, at which point I passed it.

Further on down the road, the bus caught me again but couldn't get past,
which I thought was just desserts after it had held me up earlier. Then
it had to stop due to traffic caused by the road narrowing while I just
whizzed on through the handily bike-sized gap. (Just as well the bus
hadn't got past earlier or I would have been held up there as well.)

Then I caught up with a moped and raced him for a short spell - did a
good job of keeping up until he got away from me on a short incline. 🙁

After that, coming down the other side of the hill, the road was clear
so I got a good head of steam up and was home inside another couple of
minutes, having left the bus and many cars trailing way behind.

I seem to recall someone recently suggesting in another thread that his
journeys by car were often delayed by bikes. All I can say to that is:
bollocks! If you want to get anywhere quickly, get a bike.
