source for used bikes

Why do you think eBay is useless? If you know what you want and shop carefully you can do very well on eBay. I now have a Cervelo Soloist and a BMC Team Machine that I would never have been able to afford out in the 'real' world.

One bike I would have bought but shipping and boxing it up would have cost more than the bike. I'm in Michigan and the bike was in So. Calif. I have an aquaintence that goes to China on business two weeks out of every month. Maybe she can get a good deal for me.?.🙂

friends and neighbors have been my source for worthy used bikes.
examples:
one was trashed on the side of the road so I made it a singlespeed, greased the chain, and replaced the tires
one was from my uncle's girlfriend's family, a great vintage Schwinn, which I rode until I got kicked out of Northwestern freshman year for partying
one was a Huffy Baywatch from my poor deceased neighbor and friend Stephanus Kuhn, which I busted when tossing it into a pickup prior to riding mtb trails
three more came from the aforementioned excellent uncle (1 tandem modified for racing, 1 3speed which broke under my 230lbs, 1 Raleigh Sprite which did pretty well until the crank twisted off)

my advice would be to borrow from a friend who has nice bikes he/she considers subpar but are actually pretty good.

I have had really good luck with eBay in getting good quality bikes and components. One idea is to purchase all of the parts separately and build up your own bikes. The most expensive items for shipping will be the wheels and frame. Just a couple of thoughts. Before you buy anything, I suggest that you go to a bike shop and get measured so that you get the right size bicycle.
