Bike trail links three parks

A quarter-mile bike path, finished this month, completes a loop that connects
three Liberty Township parks.

The path is along county-owned property north of Ohio 129 between Liberty Farms
Court and VanGorden Road. Most of the path is eight feet wide, with one
six-foot-wide section, said Rick Plummer, service director.

The project cost about $25,000 and was paid for with township funds.

"It took a lot of negotiation and people working together to get this done.
That's the challenge," Plummer said. "We had to get easements from private
citizens and public bodies."

The trail is part of the Miami-to-Miami bike path that eventually will allow
riders to bike from the Great Miami River to the Little Miami River.

With the opening of the path, Liberty Township residents will be able to bike
between Reserves Park, Fort Liberty Playland and Wetlands Park.

"We're connecting three parks to a segment of the Miami to Miami," said Jonathan
West, director of planning and zoning. "It forms a big loop."

That loop also gives better bike access to residents in the Ravenwood, Liberty
Farms and Reserves of Liberty subdivisions.

"It's all part of our overall plan to connect neighborhoods with parks and
schools," said Christine Matacic, president of the board of trustees. "It's also
an environmentally friendly way to get around."
