Good evening,
Shimano R122 has three hole bolt pattern to match speedplay cleat. However, the metal plate within the shoe sole will not match under any circumstance, this standard three hole pattern. Are there other plates which insert into the sole? Please help, I am eager to get out and ride these new pedals!!! Thank you in advance.

Okay, answer to my own question:

Shimano makes two type of plates within the sole (aka "nuts). One is the SPD-R or SPD Nut, the other is the SPD-SL (more common with your standard three hole configuration.

Maybe this will help someone in the future.
