  1. Hi! I'm new to the group and new to the whole "bike race" thing. 🙂 I've always done recriational biking, but I have my first marathon coming up in September!

While, I'm excited and training, I've heard we can do such things as being sponsered. Meaning pretty much a company will help you out as long as you have their logo on you somewhere.

Does anyone know how to go about this? I have no clue. I know and already have a few sponsered lined up, I just don't know what legal channels I need to go through.

    Anyhoo, thanks in advance!!!

  2. I'm not quite sure what you are asking. Are you looking for a sponsor for cycling or for running? If you want a sponsor for cycling, there aren't any legalities you need to go through (except maybe paying club dues). I would find a club/team that has a lot of women riders and who support each other in training/racing.

  3. Are you looking for a sponsor , i can't understand, can you define it!

  4. Sorry, I this tendency to think that the thoughts in my brain come out in a way that everyone understands! Ah, good thing my hubby loves this quirk...or at least accepts it. HAHAHA

I'm trying to see how to have companies sponser you as a racer. Like in NASCAR. All the logos on the car mean that those companies have paid the car driver money to have those logos on the car. Meaning that when you go to race, you are not out any money for supplies. Like bike equipment, uniforms, flyers, etc.

I didn't know if there was a legal issue to this or I just go up to a company, say, "hey, if you give me money, I'll advertise on my jersey for you during the race." and they cut me a check. I didn't know if I had to set up a tax form/account, etc.

If I'm still not making sense, I'll just hang my head in shame and go away! lol

    Thanks again!

  5. Since cycling is generally a team sport (with the exception of triathlons I guess), companies usually sponsor teams instead of individuals. Different teams provide differing levels of "support" for their riders in terms of equipment, race registration fees, etc. A good team, however, will provide you will teammates, and a training regimen/facilities at the very least, and usually a discount on bike parks at an affiliated shop.
