Magpies and looney drivers apparently aren't the only hazard the warmer
weather brings out, as per follows:
Heading down the hill to the highway, found myself following an older
(well, I'm 50 now) rider down the feeder. He was riding an MTB with
helmet but nothing much else, not even drink bottle.
We pulled up simultaneously at the highway and waited for traffic. He
had his right foot on the left side of the centre traffic island. I was
three metres over to the left, taking care not to obstruct left turn
traffic.
Through traffic clears, so we both crossed to the median strip. Then I
started crossing the westbound carriageway, and found my fellow rider
cutting across my bows, so I shouted `Hey!' to alert him and took
evasive action.
He was in fact headed direct for the ramp to the adjoining footpath, not
the road at all. He then started shouting abuse about how I should have
been on his other side (How?) and used the F--- word.
I accelerated and left this charlie to it, chugging down the footpath
(which is of course illegal for adults). I'll take my chances with the
motorized psychos as usual.
Cheers,
Ray
